Lip Sync Animation
This was another one of my favorite Flash projects. I think what I liked most about it (along with the verb phrase) was the visually pleasing end product, with the subject (a character) placed in a background world that helps tell a story. The main skill I improved on this project was frame-by-frame animation. On the verb phrase and Ron Burgundy projects, my frame-by-frames didn’t look totally realistic, but here the lip motions looked a lot more like the character was actually speaking. The most impactful design decision I made was using a character that was not facing directly forward, so all of the mouths I drew needed to be profile. It also made more sense when I motion tweened the background, so it seemed like the character was riding his unicycle slowly in the direction he was facing, even though the unicycle didn’t move. The graphics and audio combined to make it seem like the character was speaking, and the background served to provide an aesthetically pleasing setting (Shrek’s swamp) for the animation.
