Typographic Portraits A skill I learned on this project is using design elements such as color, shape, and alignment to convey characteristics without words. I think this is a great skill to have, and I don’t think I ever had to use it before this project. For example, to convey “amphibian” I used the Snap ITC font because it evoked thoughts of aquatic critters and used a light blue color overlay and drop shadow to make it look like the type resided in water. All the design decisions I made effectively combined to make the text seem like it was what it said it was: a chameleon, an acrobat, an amphibian, a linebacker, a taxi driver, a teacher, and so on. I liked this project because it was open for interpretation. For instance, there are many ways to make text look like it has an allergy, and my way of conveying was probably different than everyone else’s. |
